The Future and EYE

BY: Isaiah Grace

Imagine living in a world where human body parts can be replaced. This is just one result of science meeting technology. 3D printing is the a process for making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many successive thin layers of a material. Take this same technological idea and incorporate science.  Voila, Bio printing is born. Bio printing is the three-dimensional printing of biological tissue and organs through the layering of living cells. This breakthrough in science and technology could change the life expectancy of human. The first organ being bio printed is the eye.
Scientist in India found a way to replace a human eye with a digital copy.  This technology can cure blindness, abolish the need for glasses, and improve overall the way humans see the world. Researchers at MHOX call their product "EYE (Enhance your Eye)."  It will be available in three models: EYE HEAL, EYE ENHANCE, and EYE ADVANCE. EYE HEAL will heal vision problems along with health problems caused by bad eyes. EYE ENHANCE will enhance the vision of the eye. EYE ADVANCED will allow the eye to connect to Wi-Fi, change the filters of what's being viewed, and record what users see. So that means someone could record what they see in black and white and then upload load it to devices that have Wi-Fi connectivity.

A person would have to undergo eye surgery to replace their old eye with this new digital one. Also, they would have to take special pills that allow the to perform different functions.  I think this type technology is possible. How we view things affects how we do things. So if we are able to view the world more advanced than before then the advancement of our race would grow at a faster rate than it is now. How would this affect the way generations after us learn? There has not been any release as how much the eyes would cost or how much it will be to under go surgery. Scientist predicts the release of this product as early as January 2027. Could this technology be true? Visit the company's website and read articles on this new technology.

  1. Isaiah,

This article is a great find. From the perspective of someone that has wore glasses for a decade, I can see how this can become useful. Also, giving the gift of sight to someone that is blind is truly a life changing for that individual. I do wonder what side effects this could have on the body. What are the risks of surgery when taking out your current eye? Especially, with detaching the retina, I imagine the success rate would not be 100%. Another question I have is regarding the pills one would have to take if they acquired the eye. What would happen if they forget to take their pills and are they side effects for not doing so? Overall, it seems like a great idea and hopefully it will be available one day.

  3. The whole idea of placing a human body part is just amazing. I believe this is a breakthrough into our society truly becoming futuristic. When thinking about this type of technology the idea of half man half robot theory come to mind. A movie that reminds me of such would have to be the terminator.

  4. I have my doubts about the functionality of this new eye. Personally, I am not opposed to receiving this technology, but I will surely wait a while to see how it has affected other users before possibly trying it out. I think it would be amazing to increase human productivity by be able to sell the gift of vision. My worries are that some eyes will not work properly due to a technological malfunction and the user will need to undergo constant surgery, thus risking permanent damage which would be something the new eye couldn't even solve.

  5. The article a great, it very useful for a person who is blind or about to go blind, I would just be nervous about through with the surgery because they have to change your eye and you have to take pills that allow you to perform different functions I wear glasses know and I think i am ok with having glasses but if i was going blind i would definitely do the surgery.

  6. I think this is a great idea, but its just that, an idea. Just like Andrew brought up earlier what are the side effects of not taking the pill? Many times people forget taking certain pills daily so how would this effect the product? This is a great article and a very interesting read but I don't know how realistic this product would be. Who knows I might be eating my words in the next 10-15 years.

  7. I believe this concept is absolutely amazing. Simply knowing that scientist are actually capable of creating this concept is spectacular. For ages scientist have been looking for a cure for blindness. To know now that one may be on the horizon and to enhance our vision far beyond what we could have ever imagined is quite exciting.

  8. It is stunning that human beings have come this far in the medical field. If I told my Grandmother, who is a nurse, right now that eyes can be replaced using 3D printing technology, she wouldn't even know how to respond. This is a great article for me to share with some of my friends pursuing medical careers. Very interesting.

  9. This is extremely interesting. I find it amazing how much of an impact technology have on the world today and the impact it can have in the future. I do believe that integrating technology of this sort into the human can be extremely dangerous. Also, the fact that you would have to take pills on top of having this technology in you makes it even worst in my opinion. There are too many side affects with medication.

  10. Wow! The eye is an amazing new technology development. It is unbelievable how 3D printing can create a human organ that actually works. I wonder how it is possible to connect technology to the brain and it will not be harmful. I know the eye has to connect to the brain to create vision for the user, and I wonder if there is any bodily effects. What really amazes me about the eye is how it can cure blindness.

  11. Once again, a great technological development. An eye that can replace blindness, connect to wifi, and abolish the need for glasses, these are the types of developments that make me an awe of the human brain. The fact that this is being developed is next level. I'm interested to find out the costs of this project and the projected cost of the item for a human to install this though. That will be interesting to know as well.
