Not Too Fast! The Apple Watch is Clearly A Tad Bit Shy -- Not Coming To You As Fast As You'd Like

By: John D. Goode

Hold your horses! If you're looking forward to just popping up at your local Apple Store later this month and buying the highly anticipated apple watch, it just may not work out that way!

Most models of the Apple Watch that are ordered as of Friday morning April 17 are on back-order until June! That's a two month wait. The watch just went on sale. The market is really pulling on the watch, too.

The Telegraph reports that Apple retail chief Angela Ahrendts sent a memo to the company's staff stating that availability will be tight through May and likely not be available for walk-in purchase at stores. That's a bit confusing, too. When you visit your local Apple Store, you see a glass table full of them, waiting for your thirsty wrist to try it on. However, that's all you will be doing. Trying it on! Won't make it too far from the table, either.

The first wave of customer orders are slated "for delivery beginning April 24," according to Apple's announcement on April 9. But those are orders that were placed shortly after the watch went on sale at midnight on April 10. Since then, shipment dates have been slipping.

The Apple Watch is pretty amazing and there are a few option to choose from! Apple Watch Sport, priced at $349 and $399; Apple Watch, available from $549 to $1,099; and Apple Watch Edition, crafted from custom rose or yellow 18-karat gold alloys, with prices starting at… just wait for it! The 18-karat gold Apple Watch is starting at a whopping $10,000! I thought about selling my Rolex to afford the Apple Watch. That thought only lasted for a few seconds.

The watch needs the iPhone in order to tap into all of the watch's capabilities, which include fitness and health apps, email, phone calls, and Apple Pay.

The watch itself comes with a Digital Crown -- a way to scroll, zoom and navigate, in addition to the more standard touch interface. It also comes with a Taptic Engine that delivers a gentle tap on the wrist whenever the wearer receives a notification or message.
Compatibility is limited to the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.2 or later.

Go get yours today! (Well not really, but go pre-order yours today) You won't regret it...

  1. Wow! This just shows how consumers today always want to try and have the newest fads or trends on the market today. The Apple Watch definitely sounds like an awesome product that everyone would benefit from, but to what extent will people go for to get it. The basic Apple Watch is priced around the range of a regular new electronic device that is hot on the market, but then starts to go crazy when you get into details. When I heard that the 18-karat gold Apple Watch would cost $10,000, I thought it was pure ludicrous and who would possible want or need that. Even though $10,000 is a lot of money, I am sure that consumers will still try to buy that even if they lack the funds just because their main focus is materialistic gain.

  2. That's crazy! Apple is really taking over. They always come right on time with some revolutionary product. I think it was smart of them to make the different models with the broad price range. I agree with Dondrae's last comment, customers will still find a way to buy the $10,000 model.

  3. The apple watch is the preview of next age technology. Its features and complexity make it a hot commodity in the tech world. I am not surprise to see the machine on back order because of the amount of publicity it has gotten for almost an entire year now. The price is steep of course for college students like us, but with the increasing demand for it Apple is doing the right thing. As long as the people demand and want it, it will be priced pretty high and still sell. Years from now the price will decrease because there will be something new and advanced and the time of the apple watch will have came and gone. For now however this the watch is amazing and brings all of the futuristic thoughts that people had in this time to life.

  4. Despite my love of new products, the Apple watch unfortunately is not one of the products that has me excited for two reasons. First is the price which seems far too high, however, I guess they have a big enough fan base to charge whatever they want these days, and second I feel as though we already live in an age where people choose to interact face to face a lot less which is a problem the watch will most certainly add to in my opinion

  5. Great post! The iwatch will definitely change the landscape in how other phone companies with try to compete with their own version of the iwatch. I believe this is expected alike how the market changed with the iPad. What I am interested in seeing is the impact of the watch industry as a whole. Is this just another gadget or will this replace the current watch as we know it.

  7. Apple is trying to set its brand apart from other technology makers. Having a touch screen watch that synchronizes with your phone and the devices around you is really cool. Apple is combining luxury with technology. This trend could one day cause famous luxury brands such as Rolex to follow suit. I foresee one day apple creating the technology to talk to talk to someone through a watch similar to facetime on a cell phone.
