Quantum Computing

Quantum computing is impacting technology in a major way. Quantum computing is storing and sharing quantum physics to process information. How a quantum computing works is that it uses quantum bits. A typical computer uses long string of bits that is able to cipher a one or a zero. A quantum computer can encode ones and zeros much faster than traditional computers because the quantum bits are using two separate quantum states. The two quantum states that are being used are superposition and entanglement. Superpostion is a term used to describe the ability that a quantum system can be simultaneously at more than one place at a time. For example, instead of having a few accountants looking through hundreds of balance sheets looking for an error, it will be faster to have hundreds of accountants looking for that one error. Entanglement is the strong correlation that quantum particles have even if the particles are separated by great distances. There a many ways quantum computing can improve the world we live in.

Quantum computing can simplify forecasting weather, medical drug discovery, and calculating best routes to take when on the road. When forecasting weather, meteorologists have to analyze temperature and pressure; which can be challenging because there is too many ways a weather pattern can form. Quantum computing can analyze all the data quickly and determine the exact locations were bad weather can be expected. When it comes to testing new medical drugs, a quantum computer will be an advantage for chemists. Chemists have to go through a complex process when developing a new drug. Chemists have to test an innumerous amount of different molecule combinations to see if they are effective against a disease. A quantum computer can rapidly test trillions of molecular combinations and identify which molecule combinations will be effective. This will save Chemist time and money.  When it comes to traveling, quantum computers can help drivers calculate the best route to take. If you are traveling somewhere and you need to make ten different stops, a quantum computer can calculate the optimal route you need to take for all ten stops simultaneously. A traditional computer will have to calculate the length of each route one at a time.

Quantum computers are not completely accessible yet, but there are a few companies that use them. D-Wave is a company that uses quantum computers. Two other companies that use quantum computers are Google and NASA. NASA uses D-Wave computer systems for research and air traffic controls. The quantum computers help NASA send robots to far-off places that would not typically be possible. As far as quantum computers selling in the computer market it could take some years, but we can expect it in the near future.

  1. Let me be the first to say that this topic is completely and utterly amazing. Many people do not know, but quantum physics are incorporated into everyday life in such a natural way, that we over look the efficiency that it has brought society on such a grand scale. Quantum computing has given these physicists a means of explaining natural phenomena and existence in a way that translate to the behavior of atoms and molecules. If you don't know anything about atoms and molecules, know that existence stretches beyond the realms of human thought, yet we still have tangible evidence that thing are in existence, sometimes in a multidimensional effect. Quantum computing will process so much data that the world be able to self regulate in a way that really promotes the fundamental ideals of optimization. I find it amazing, like the man in the video, that humans have the brain capacity to conjure thought provoking problems such as inventing the quantum computer and solving the most basic, yet intellectually tasking questions that explain our existence.

  2. Wow, Quantum computers are really a thing of the future. The technology that this software uses helps big companies like NASA and Google explore new things and take on new ventures. This software utilizes some intelligence in the science world that helps the technology forecast information for its users. In some cases it can detect the weather that is coming in a more detailed manner than normal. And in other cases it could help NASA to send off robots successfully to far way places. Quantum computers are truly a thing of the future and the abilities of this new technology is endless. This software is not open to the market at the moment and I can understand why. Once the economy gets hip to this technology it will take the market by storm. But until then engineers will continue to perfect the Quantum computers and have them readily available once the market catches on.

  3. Quantum computers seems like an amazing step forward in today's technological society. These computers will also make it easier to predict events and solve problems. Since my interest is in finance, I can only imagine how these highly sophisticated computers will affect the financial industry. Also, if these computers were available to the public, I feel some individuals will make giant leaps in society.

  6. Quantum computers is a great product for the future, these computers would make thinks a lot easier and also faster then a normal computer. Though the technology of the computers is not out for everyone use yet I believe its going to take a few people a while to understand how to use it, but once they get the hang it will make life easier for them.

  7. Quantum computers is revolutionary to society. There will be so many advances in technology and medicine in the process. Just think what people would be able to create within their own homes if the quantum computer was sold on a global scale. Even though these computers can do so much for good, my only fear is that individuals with negative intentions can create just as much harm.

  9. What's most interesting about this to me is that they expect these types of computers to be able to answer questions like "are we alone?" I am unclear about a lot of the technology but I do understand that by having the binary code constantly in superposition, the computers will be able to perform tasks at an exponentially higher rate than current computers that are available to the public. I am not sure if the world is ready for such an advancement, but I sure am. Great post.

  10. This article highlights the aspect of how researching Quantum Physics could change day to day life. I have learned that the connection between physics and computer science is not as strong as it could, but as quantum computing research continues the two subjects will bond together. I agree with author this quantum computing is the future, and with this advances there will be more discoveries made sooner. This articles does a great job of telling the reader of the applications of quantum computing., and how they are being applied today. I really enjoyed reading this article and hope to see more physics related articles.

  11. Quantum computers demonstrates how society has grown over time. Quantum computing has given these physicists a method for clarifying regular phenomena and presence in a manner that mean the conduct of molecules and particles. In the event that you don't know anything about molecules and atoms, realize that presence extends past the domains of human thought, yet regardless we have substantial proof that thing are in presence, in some cases in a multidimensional impact.

  12. This is a great read Kamari! Quantum computing is another way science and technology will, yet again, transform our society. I think these type of computers will be personal before we know it. Just as computers started out in the business world these too will eventually make the transition. I think science and technology are about to make a full complete merge in the future. To where they are studied and practiced simultaneously. Wifi is about to be all around us without personal modems, computers are evolving, this is a great time to witness these types of changes.

  15. Ive always heard of Quantum physics but never really paid it much attention or looked into it much. Getting to look at these videos opened my eyes to what is really possible. Quantum computing would be amazing to see first hand and I agree, this product should will be realistically finding its way to commercial use within the next decade I believe at the latest.

  16. I really enjoyed your post Kamari, quantum computing is a necessary topic when discussing technology advancement. Just to think, airlines can quickly manage their day to day flight schedules in seconds, weather analysts would be more accurate over long periods of time (maybe being able to predict earthquakes and hurricanes before they happen), and over all, making decisions would be easier with more accurate information. I am interested in the future of business that specialize in helping other businesses make decisions i.e. consulting and statistics. Since businesses could then have the ability to input countless inputs of data and get feedback in almost an instant, does that mean the end of consultants and statisticians?
