New Movement

In today's society two companies have become a daily part of human life and interaction.  Two powerhouse technological companies by the name of Google and Apple have become a integral part of a large majority of people's lives.  These companies have been praised for their endeavors in the advancement of technology.  Apple has created brilliant products from the iPhone to Apple TV.  All the while, Google has continued to create and provide various products and services to its consumers.
However, Google and Apple have begun to venture into an industry that most individuals and competitors may not have been expecting.  Both corporations are now making strides to enter the automotive industry.
Google has been in the process of developing and perfecting a completely autonomous car. An autonomous car is described as a car that can drive itself.  The introduction of an autonomous car would greatly impact the way our current society works.  Imagine the concept of riding down the highway to see people performing random task or maybe even sleeping on the way to their destination.  Google is planning for the car to enter mass production in the year 2020
Apple's concept seems a bit easier for people to wrap their heads around.  Apple is already in the process of producing a new electric car.  Although, Apple has become a staple in today's global culture.  Apple has not ventured outside of the standard technological products it has become synonymous with.  This has allowed apple to generate cash reserves 178 billion dollars.  With such a large amount of money, essentially just sitting around, it makes sense for Apple to take risks and explore other industries.
Although automotive juggernauts Tesla Motors and General Motors have not been in direct competition with Apple and Google.  The power and following of these two-tech beast can not be denied.  Because of this, these automotive companies are fighting tooth and nail to find ways to make sure their product is able to compete with the new endeavors from Google and Apple.  The main goal of both Tesla and GM is to produce an electric vehicle that has the capability of traveling more than 200 miles per charge and that is priced under $40,000.

  1. The invention of an autonomous car will revolutionize the world today. Google's step toward the autonomous car has the potential of both being helpful and safer for drivers, but on the other hand can become a threat for competitors in the automotive industry who will have to create better and more productive vehicles to avoid being run of business by Google's advancement. On another note, not only will competitors possibly suffer from Google's autonomous car. People who have jobs such as valets at places like restaurants or hotels as well as taxi drivers will be at risk of unemployment because they will no longer be needed sense the car will have the capabilities to park itself. Google's idea of the autonomous car will change the world forever in both in a positive and negative way.

  2. The market for the autonomous car has yet to be created. None of us know how much of a demand their will be initially for an autonomous car. Even though the two companies are industry powerhouses, the autonomous car poses a few threats. I still believe the money is in going green. Consumers are more likely to try an electric car before getting in a car that they can't control. It is our nature to fear a lack of control. Unless these companies market their product and relay the message of safety and security in these vehicles, there is a potential these cars put themselves in such a niche market that profitability will be difficult to achieve. Will the market for this product be too defined? The consumers that will buy these cars will have to have the money to acquire these vehicles, they will have to find the cars aesthetically appealing, and they will have to trust the technology put in the car. The idea is very cool and I could see a move to this autonomous trend, but it will be interesting to see how quickly consumers demand a product like this

  3. It will be very interesting on how the autonomous car will improve the society. The car will develop many characteristics that will help improve society. The consumers will need to have enough wealth to purchase this car but when it becomes affordable it will help the economy in so many ways.

  4. Apple's concept does seems a bit easier for people to wrap their heads around. I wonder if it is because of their already established reputation? How can we measure the projected production if the autonomous car has yet to be created? Apple is already in the process of producing a new electric car. Is that evidence enough?

  5. I also question whether autonomous cars will make a true difference in our society. The car would have to be beneficial and affordable. However i do believe that Apple will find a way to make it happen. I am excited to see what the alleged Apple electronic car looks like.
