Using Excel

By James Austin

Morehouse College's business department has the prestige to carry their students through the doors of fortune 500 companies. In interviews, the question is asked, "do you know how to use excel?" The Man of Morehouse would respond with a bold "yes!" It is said that numbers do not lie but I beg to differ. There is always a correct formula to use to prove that numbers are representing the truth and are not misleading. For this reason, excel has been the answer to proving that numbers that do not lie and provide many formulas to make calculations a lot easier.

Excel is an application that is used in many industries. In fact, it used in all industries that have any numerical representation. By definition, it is an electronic spreadsheet program that can be used for storing, organizing, and manipulating data.

The learning of this program has been made a priority in my life. I believe in the application and the science. If one can master excel then they will have the tools to become a professional and credible source in any industry.

For beginners, I have attached a brief video to this blog. It will explain the basics of excel and provide a foundation for your future success.

  1. Being able to ue excel is a skill that appraisingly a lot of people do not have. I was one a few who were able to create effective graphs and tables in my internship over the summer. If you know how to use it right Excel can simplify a task given to you by your boss.

  2. I know the business department is currently working on effectively adding excel into our lesson plans because the corporate world has said this is an area Morehouse Men are weak in. The MIS Course aside how do you feel we could help these numbers and help Morehouse Men become more effective in the corporate world with the necessary technical and analytical skills we are said to lack?

  3. Great post with a great video to help out as well. With excel being vital in todays business world I must say that this is a great example of a continuous growth technology in the work force. Before excel workers had to do these spreadsheets manually. With that being said do you believe that technology may be causing laziness in the work force?
