In our MIS class held February 4 we discussed the possibilities of future innovation. We discussed new glass technology and a world that would be extremely dependent on Wi-Fi. However I believe that is only the tipi of the iceberg. There are many innovative ideas that are currently under construction that we did discuss.
TIME TRAVEL
This possibly is the most anticipated concept that has not yet been created. Time travel has been talked about in science fiction for years. The question is: How far are we from breaking the space-time continuum There are only two problems with time travel right now: the grandfather paradox and the actual movement of a particle through time. The Grandfather Paradox is theory that if one were to travel back in time, their interactions could to them not being born. But physicists at the University of Queensland in Australia have that can mimic how a quantum particle would behave if it passed through a closed time-like curve and interacted with a younger version of its self. Through this experiment the Grandfather Paradox was avoided. Now the last problem to solve would be to actually move a particle through time. So how far are we from breaking the space-time continuum? With physicist working very diligently this break through could be right around the corner.
HOLOGRAPHY
Since Tupac's surprise appearance at Coachella 2012, the possibilities of holographic technology have been on the minds of many. Future Earth will benefit from this technology tremendously. Imagine a world where we would be able to have lunch with relatives who are half way across the world. Or have sit down meetings with investors that are in 5 different countries. The possibilities are endless. Microsoft recently showed off an augmented reality headset slated for release later this year. The compact, visor-style device, called Hololens, generates holograms that make 3-D objects appear to the wearer to be overlaid on the real world (see the link below). Other companies are beginning to invest in the incorporation of holographic technologies in their products. Soon holography will become a part of our every day lives.
I am always truly amazed by the advancements in technology today. With the way things are going now, I truly do believe that time travel which many have seen on television or heard gossip about may actually happen sooner then we think. And for holographic imagery, I am totally psyched and definitely plan on obtaining Microsoft's new Hololens when it comes out.
ReplyDeleteIt is very interesting to know that we are breaking through technology that is beyond our level of thinking. To know that holograms will be a part of everyday life is spectacular, and furthermore this will form a new way of life for many. Time travel also is very interesting, I've watched movies and read books about potential time travel years ago. The only thing is that it was always in a fictional setting, to know that there is actually science behind this idea is astonishing. Today's day in age is something that we dreamed of in the past, some of these inventions are far ahead of their time and lots of credit should be given to the scientists and inventors, because they are the innovators whom will change our society's daily lives. It's amazing that these things are even possible, I'm eager to learn more on this topic.
ReplyDeleteI am probably the biggest skeptic when it comes to modern advances in technology. am always open to learning about different things, but skeptical nonetheless. This hologram technology actually has a place in this modern era to take us to the next level of how we handle business. I found it interesting that I can be in atlanta and still conduct business with someone in london as if i were there. The hologram technology can have a personal application as well especially if your that dad who constantly has to choose between work and your kids little league game. Holograms can even be used as a method to keep our troops safe. If we could deploy the hologram version of our troops to survey an area before they got there that would be a lot more efficient.
ReplyDeleteIts amazing to think how far we have come in a matter of a decade. Not too long ago we were using real maps, wanting the newest flip phone, and using dial up internet. This advancement in technology is going to be very interesting. The benefits of holograms are great and it will be very interesting to see the use of this technology in the world. I wonder will it be more of a corporate product ore one that will be available in households around the world
ReplyDeleteI think Microsoft has always been, since its founding, the leading innovator in the way we conduct business and the way we learn. Its inspiring to see how business and education has evolved with each progressing year. Just recently I visited a new charter(K-12) school where technology and robotics are the contemporary wood shop.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Justin, within a decade technology has moved swiftly. However, time travel is way head of our time. It is good to know that the science behind it is moving with technology. Other technological discoveries like Smart Houses, Flying Cars, Alternative Energy etc. I think need to be made first, then we would be much more closer to time travel.
These are great articles on possible innovations for the future. Time traveling hasn't seemed realistic too me, but I want to look more into it after that video. I do believe humans will began to utilize the wonders in the universe in our future.
ReplyDeleteI think the movement into the cloud is the first adaptation to communicating virtually anywhere. Once we fully understand the capabilities of wireless communication, it could possibly lead to civilization in space. "The Internet of Things" like holograms, satellite communication, and the functions of the universe could really change our perspective on human life.
This is a very interesting post. Holograms can possibly be the future of many venturers for the future. Diversity and innovations are the keys to having a very profitable and lucrative business and this can easily be the next investment for optimistic CEO.
ReplyDeleteI think that there are variables that just cannot be accounted for or explained when we're talking about placing someone or something in a different time. I don't think that the grandfather paradox could ever truly be avoided. For example, let's say you actually end up going back in time and while walking, you kick a pebble into a different spot than it was. Who knows the type of effects that that action could have on the future. Maybe a man was supposed to trip over that pebble and have his future wife help him up. But since you moved it, that never happened. That's just what I think when someone says time travel.
ReplyDeleteI love the direction that technology is moving in. I am extremely uncertain about how time travel will work, however holograms on the other hand will be extremely electrifying. I vividly remember the Tupac hologram at Coachella in 2012. It was a chance for me to see one of my favorite artist for the first time live. I can only imagine what this could do for the entertainment industry. Just imagine the possibilities; Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston and the list goes on and on.
ReplyDeleteIt is mind blowing of how advanced technology is in today's society. Holograms could possibly serve as that connection between technology and humans. If you had a smart house or car, holograms could be used to create a sense of life into future smart technology. Also, holograms would have numerous possibilities in the entertainment industry, especially gaming.
