Google Hardware

Why is google getting into hardware? Glass, Nest, Car, Fiber and Robots.

GOOGLE GLASS

GOOGLE NEST

GOOGLE CAR

GOOGLE FIBER

GOOGLE ROBOTS
Google bought Boston Dynamics in 2013.
It is the eighth robotics company that Google
has acquired in the last half-year.
Executives at the Internet giant are circumspect about
what exactly they plan to do with their robot collection.

  1. I believe that it is very crucial that one keeps an open mind to new technology and innovations. I was asked the question in class by Professor Sistrunk, "would you buy a self-driving car"? After hearing all of the positive possibilities this would provide for people, I was interested, but not convinced to buy the car with such capabilities. To elaborate, I would not be the first to buy the car because I would need to see more evidence of safety and improvements to the car. There are many questions when thinking about such a revolutionary innovation with many questions that not only need answers, but solutions.. The Google Glass is very intriguing as well. I don't think I would buy it because I believe it is a device that is unnecessary. In comparison, I look to the first generation of the iPad. It seemed unnecessary and excessive at the time of release, but after improvements to the product and its capabilities it has become a huge player in the market. Before buying Google Glass, I would need to see improvements on a similar trajectory that was seen with the iPad tablet.

  2. The video that intrigued me the most, is the video about Google Glass. I liked the fact that you could look for directions and navigate your location using the Google Glass. Another, attribute I liked about Google Glass is that you can play music throw the glasses. I wonder if the music being played through the glasses sounds as crisp as listening to music through headphones. Also, I wonder how you would charge the Google Glass.

  3. This is class definitely hits home for me, as I had the opportunity to work for Google this summer. Upper management would notify us when they had made technologic strides and acquisitions, so I was able to learn about these products as soon as Google made advances. For that reason, I am fervently interested in these products and have made sure to stay up to date with them. My personnal favorite is Google Glass, as the advances in functionality and style in a short period of time has been nothing short of amazing. I actually had the opportunity to try it and I can assure you that it is just as cool and simple as it looks.

Google's main focus is "doing cool things that matter", a task that extends beyond the digital internet. This includes hardware and any other possible endeavor. Google has a firm belief that they can make things simpler and more influential so that absolutely everybody is able to feel like a master of technology. Google hopes to help facilitate a new generation of tech users, regardless of their background or age.
