Google is on its way to beat the Apple Pay, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant's contact-less wireless mobile payment service.
The search giant's payment platform, with major focus on mobile, will be delivered by three out of the four top wireless carriers in United States, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and AT&T, through phones running Android KitKat, and Android Lollipop.
With this multi-company partnership, Google will be able to capture a bigger market share, possibly bigger than Apple Pay. Android controls roughly 40 to 50 percent of the current American smartphone market, while the two newer version are installed on 41.3 percent of total Android devices worldwide.
The app called Google Wallet, will be pre-installed on Android smartphones, which means, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6, and other new flagship models will include the mobile application out of the box.
No word yet from Google if carriers will also deliver the app to current devices in the wild through a software update.
Google Wallet was introduced three years before Apple unveiled its payment service, but due to market's fragmentation, with major companies operating similar services, Google's platform has failed to gain enough market share to attract vital support from retail chains.
Great blog. I love the virtual paying apps. However, through research I find the apple pay easier to use and more appealing to the market than google. Apple stands as one of the most popular and technology driven industries. Google will have to find another way to compete.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing Mr. Morris. I am actually intrigued about the fact that Google is venturing into a mobile payment service. I think Google Android operating system is used by a large percentage globally compared to Apple. I am from Zimbabwe and I understand that only 2% of our total population uses Apple whilst the rest uses Androids. This gives Google a global market share compared to Apple Pay.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. I chose this blog in particular because it is a topic that is eradicating a way of living we have become accustomed to. With the introduction and widespread success of Apple Pay, it is no surprise that Google and Android would love to be a part of this new trend. However, I feel where Apple beats Android, is the ease of use. Apple Pay is a simple and seamless journey for consumers. Also, Apple only has one device to manage, the iPhone. However, Android has a wide array of devices to implement this new system into. In order to beat Apple, Android would have to roll out a new line of devices with a simple process comparable to Apple
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I'm curious as to how it will compete with Apple Pay? For some reason, I have speculation about Android or Google going with mobile paying... Interesting post!
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't believe that anyone will ever have a chance in overtaking Apple even though the scariest part about technology is that it is always changing and if your company is not willing to adjust to the time or is not innovating to the next level, then the company will suffer.
